William B. Petersen
Vice President - General Counsel and Secretary

Bill Petersen is vice president, general counsel and secretary – Verizon Wireless, the nation’s largest wireless company. He is responsible for the company’s legal and compliance matters.

Petersen most recently served as vice president and associate general counsel - State Regulatory for Verizon, overseeing the company’s legal strategy on regulatory matters in the Eastern states. From 2006 to 2008, he was president of Verizon Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for all Verizon’s corporate interests in the state, including public policy, government and external affairs, and regulatory matters.

Under Petersen’s leadership in Pennsylvania, Verizon had significant successes in the communications and public policy arenas, particularly in rolling out Verizon’s industry-leading FIOS TV and FIOS Internet services to hundreds of thousands of consumers and businesses.

Before joining Verizon’s legal department in 2000, Petersen was an assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and also worked in private practice.

Petersen graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the school’s Law Review.
