David Small
Vice President and Chief Technical Officer

David Small is vice president and chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless, the premier wireless provider with the nation’s largest, most reliable wireless voice and 3G broadband data network. Verizon Wireless is the largest wireless company in the United States.

In his current role, Small is responsible for planning, engineering, building and operating Verizon Wireless’ industry-leading voice and data networks, including its growing 4G LTE, the nation’s fastest and the world’s most advanced data network.

Previously, Small was president of the company’s Northeast Area, responsible for the company's operations in the New England, New York Metro, Philadelphia Tri-State, Upstate New York, and Washington/Baltimore/Virginia regions.

Small has held a number of leadership positions within Verizon Communications. He has served as president of Verizon’s wholesale business unit with responsibility for strategic planning, sales and marketing, and operations of local and long-distance services. He has also served as vice president of Verizon Access Services and managed ordering, design, provisioning and maintenance of wholesale network services in 19 states and the District of Columbia. Previously with GTE, Small was general manager of business response and led the design and provisioning of complex voice and data services and switch management and support before GTE became part of Verizon.

Small began his career as a network design engineer for the former Contel, an independent telephone company that merged with GTE, with responsibility for planning, engineering and capital budgeting for telephone networks. He held a number of positions, including senior switching engineer, sales engineer, technical support manager, and manager of regional and national sales.

Small has been active in community organizations, including Junior Achievement and Science Central. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KidsPeace, a national non-profit group dedicated to helping children in crisis. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Ball State University.
